Ronald Mincy Joins New York State Juvenile Justice Task Force

New York, NY – Dr. Ronald Mincy, the Maurice V. Russell Professor of Social Policy and Social Welfare, has been selected as a member in the newly created New York State Juvenile Justice Task Force.  An initiative by Governor Paterson and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), the Task Force will review and reform the state’s current policies and practices for providing care and custody to incarcerated youth.

The Task Force is charged to develop a strategy to transform the state’s juvenile justice system.  Over the course of one year, the Task Force will examine current system functioning, needs presented by youth in care, and available community resources.  The initiative aims to transform the state’s juvenile justice system by developing a community-based, rehabilitative model that can act as a model for other states seeking similar reforms.

The Task Force is expected to convene in its first meeting in September, 2008.
